What Is This About?

If you recently received a letter or an email from The Beacon Mutual Insurance Company informing you that your sensitive personal information was compromised in a data breach, we would like to speak with you about your rights and potential legal remedies. What Happened?

From January 7, 2026 to January 14, 2026, an unauthorized individual accessed The Beacon Mutual Insurance Company’s network/systems and acquired copies of files. According to a letter sent to the Maine Attorney General’s Office, one or more of the accessed files contained individuals’ names and Social Security numbers. A separate report submitted to the Massachusetts Office of Consumer Affairs and Business Regulation indicates that the incident also involved financial account information and driver’s license information. Public reporting indicates Beacon Mutual confirmed it was the victim of a ransomware attack on January 14, 2026, with threat actor INC Ransom taking credit. Beacon Mutual began mailing notification letters to affected individuals on May 18, 2026. The incident was also referenced in government materials, including a Massachusetts data breach report stating that 11,890 Massachusetts residents were impacted.

What Information Was Impacted?

Upon information and belief, the following types of sensitive personal information may have been compromised:

• "Financial account information";
• "Driver’s license information" .
