What Is This About?

If you recently received a letter from Nelson University (formerly Southwestern Assemblies of God University) about a data breach, your sensitive personal and protected health information may have been compromised. What Happened?

On or about April 6, 2025, Nelson University of Waxahachie, Texas ("Nelson") became aware of potential unauthorized access to its network. Upon detection, Nelson took steps to ensure the security of its systems and commenced an investigation into the incident with the assistance of cybersecurity professionals. The investigation revealed that an unauthorized actor accessed Nelson's systems from about March 21, 2025, to about April 6, 2025, and, as a result, possibly viewed and/or obtained certain files. Nelson then conducted a forensic review of the affected files to determine what personal information was affected and to whom it belongs. This review completed on May 26, 2026. On June 15, 2026, Nelson reported the breach to state authorities in California and Massachusetts. On June 18, 2026, the breach was listed on the reporting site for the Texas Attorney General. Nelson is notifying impacted persons individually via U.S. Mail.

What Information Was Impacted?

Upon information and belief, the following types of sensitive personal information may have been compromised:

• Name;
• Social Security number;
• Driver's license number;
• Government-issued ID number, such as passport or state ID card;
• Financial account information;
• Medical information.
