What Is This About?

Springfield Hospital recently disclosed that it was the victim of a data breach that exposed individuals’ sensitive personal and protected health information.

What Happened?

On Dec. 17, 2025, Springfield Hospital discovered that an employee email account was accessed by an unauthorized individual. After learning of the incident, Springfield Hospital secured its email system and launched an investigation to determine the scope of the breach and whether any sensitive data was accessed or acquired. On Feb. 10, 2026, the investigation revealed that the compromised email account contained personal and health information for certain individuals. A total of 5,892 individuals were impacted (including 806 New Hampshire residents and 41 Massachusetts residents). Springfield Hospital’s breach was also reported through government and regulatory sources, including postings by the Massachusetts Attorney General, the New Hampshire Attorney General, and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services breach portal. A public notice of the incident was also posted by Springfield Hospital.

What Information Was Impacted?

Upon information and belief, the following types of sensitive personal information may have been compromised:

• "Full names";
• "Dates of birth";
• "Social Security numbers";
• "Reasons for visits";
• "Treating physician names";
• "Medical record numbers" .
